Job Summary:

The Freestanding Emergency Department RN delivers urgent and emergency care to patients presenting with a wide variety of medical conditions, injuries, and traumas. The FSED RN is responsible for performing patient assessments, delivering treatments, managing emergencies, and working in a team environment to ensure timely and quality care in a non-hospital-based emergency department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Triage and Assessment:

    • Assess patients upon arrival to determine the severity of their condition and prioritize care.
    • Obtain detailed medical histories, perform physical exams, and recognize critical conditions that require immediate intervention.
  • Emergency Care:

    • Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and other treatments as prescribed.
    • Assist with minor procedures, wound care, splinting, and other medical interventions as necessary.
    • Manage patients with a range of medical issues, including trauma, infections, and urgent medical conditions.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation:

    • Continuously monitor patient vital signs and response to treatments. Report changes in condition and collaborate with healthcare providers for adjustments to the care plan.
  • Collaborative Care:

    • Work closely with physicians, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.
    • Communicate effectively with the team, ensuring that the treatment plan is followed, and patients are informed about their condition and care.
  • Patient Education:

    • Provide patients and families with information on their diagnosis, treatment options, and follow-up care instructions.
    • Ensure patients understand discharge instructions, including medication usage and warning signs that may require re-evaluation.
  • Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records, including assessments, treatments, and progress notes, in the facility’s electronic health record system.
  • Quality and Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to FSED policies, protocols, and regulatory guidelines (such as HIPAA and infection control).
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety protocols.
  • Crisis and Emergency Management:

    • Respond effectively to emergencies and assist in life-saving procedures, such as CPR, airway management, and stabilization of patients with acute conditions.
    • Handle medical emergencies efficiently and appropriately, even when resources may be more limited compared to a full hospital ER.
  • Teamwork and Communication:

    • Maintain clear communication with patients, families, and the care team to coordinate and provide the best possible care in a collaborative environment.
    • Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment, contributing to an effective team dynamic.
What qualifications you will need:

  • 1 year of Recent (within the last 2-3 years) Acute Care RN experience (looking for ED, ICU, PCU experience; If a candidate has paramedic experience in their background, it’s a plus)
  • Florida RN license and/or approved multistate RN license required. Compact license holders have 60 days to obtain the Florida license after relocation. 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course, or TNCC Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
Compensation: $30.60 - $45.90 per hour
