Job Summary:

The CVICU RN provides direct patient care in the cardiovascular intensive care unit, ensuring patients receive the necessary medical treatment following cardiac surgeries, procedures, or other cardiovascular conditions. The nurse will work with a multidisciplinary team to monitor, assess, and care for critically ill patients in a high-acuity setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care:

    • Assess and monitor cardiovascular patients’ conditions, including vital signs, heart rhythm, and oxygenation status.
    • Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including intravenous medications, anticoagulants, and vasopressors.
    • Operate and monitor advanced medical equipment like ventilators, defibrillators, and cardiac monitors.
    • Provide post-operative care for patients who have undergone heart surgeries (e.g., coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacement, etc.).
    • Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
    • Manage and assess complications such as arrhythmias, myocardial infarctions, or other acute cardiovascular issues.
  2. Patient Education:

    • Educate patients and families regarding the treatment plan, recovery process, and lifestyle modifications.
    • Provide instructions on wound care, medication adherence, and other essential post-discharge instructions.
  3. Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
    • Document all procedures, medications, and patient responses in compliance with hospital standards.
  4. Emergency Care:

    • Respond to code blue situations or other emergency cardiovascular events, providing rapid, high-quality interventions.
    • Participate in resuscitation efforts, including CPR and defibrillation when necessary.
  5. Collaboration & Communication:

    • Work with other healthcare professionals, including intensivists, cardiologists, respiratory therapists, and surgeons, to ensure optimal patient care.
    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members about patient status and care needs.
  6. Quality & Safety:

    • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
    • Participate in continuing education and training to stay updated on best practices in cardiovascular nursing care.
Job Requirements:

  • 1 year of Recent (within the last 2-3 years) Acute Care ICU RN experience. *Would Consider PCU RN experience
  • Florida RN license and/or approved multistate RN license required. Compact license holders have 60 days to obtain the Florida license after relocation.
  • Associate Degree, BSN preferred
  • BLS within 30 days of hire/transfer
  • ACLS within 90 days of hire/transfer
Compensation: $32.00 - $48.00 per hour
