Job Summary:

The Emergency Room RN provides direct patient care in an emergency department, assessing, treating, and stabilizing patients with a wide variety of urgent medical conditions, injuries, and traumas. The ER RN plays a key role in prioritizing patient care based on the severity of illness or injury and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment: Quickly assess patients' conditions upon arrival in the ER. Obtain detailed medical histories, conduct physical exams, and prioritize care based on the severity of symptoms.

  • Treatment and Care: Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products as prescribed. Assist with procedures such as wound care, intubations, and life-saving interventions (e.g., CPR).

  • Monitor Patients: Continuously monitor patients’ vital signs and condition. Report any changes to the attending physician and adjust treatments as needed.

  • Emergency Interventions: Provide immediate care for trauma, medical, surgical, and psychiatric emergencies. Recognize and intervene in life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, and severe bleeding.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with a team of healthcare professionals, including doctors, paramedics, and social workers, to deliver comprehensive patient care. Communicate patient progress, changes in condition, and concerns to the healthcare team.

  • Patient Education: Provide patients and their families with information about diagnoses, treatment plans, and home care instructions. Address any concerns or questions in an empathetic manner.

  • Documentation: Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, progress notes, and discharge plans in electronic health records (EHR).

  • Triage: Prioritize patients based on the severity of their conditions using established protocols. Ensure that critical patients receive immediate attention while non-urgent cases are appropriately managed.

  • Crisis Management: Respond to trauma situations or mass casualty events and coordinate care in high-stress, emergency situations.

  • Compliance: Ensure all care and actions comply with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, infection control).

  • What qualifications you will need:

    • 1 year of Recent (within the last 2-3 years) Acute Care RN experience (looking for ED, ICU, PCU experience; If a candidate has paramedic experience in their background, it’s a plus)
    • Florida RN license and/or approved multistate RN license required. Compact license holders have 60 days to obtain the Florida license after relocation. 
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
    • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
    • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
    • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
    • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course, or TNCC Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
Compensation: $30.60 - $40.95 per hour
